Health

Last week I talked about my eating situation, and the foods I like to eat to stay healthy & in shape. This week I want to talk about another method I use to stay healthy and at my ideal weight, intermittent fasting.

Intermittent fasting is when you have between 14 and 16 hours between your last meal and your first meal the next day. For example, If I eat my last meal at 7 pm the night before, I try not to eat breakfast or anything until around 10/11 the following morning.

Intermittent fasting is a little challenging at first, but after you do it for a few weeks your body really gets used to it and you don’t get hungry until it's time to eat again. I know it doesn't work for everyone, but I know so many people that do it and it keeps a lot of my friends at their ideal weight. I recommend trying it out for 2-3 weeks to see if it works for you, you don’t have to count calories as much, you just have to eat within your window which makes it a pretty easy way to diet!

The science behind intermittent fasting is to burn fat. Research says that after 12 hours of not eating your body starts to run off of stored fats instead of the food you’ve eaten recently, which means the longer you fast, the more fat you will burn. A lot of people start with a 12-hour fasting window and gradually increase it. The idea is to get all your calories for the day eaten within the window you’ve given yourself, not cutting calories, but eating in the defined window.

I really advise you to read about it and do some research about it, talk to a health professional, and make sure it’s a good option for you.

Travel

Last week I talked about my time in Capri and Positano, if you haven’t read last week’s It’s a Situation, you can find it below.

After an amazing few weeks in Europe, and coming back to reality to Dallas, I felt like I needed to go to a retreat to reset my mind, body, and soul. After my wild summer of travel I was coming back to Dallas single, and living alone... so, after a lot of research, I decided to attend the Ashram in Malibu, California. It was a big situation for me to agree to do this, everything the retreat offers is basically out of my comfort zone.

For example, for one week… we woke up at 5 am (which I never do), do yoga (which I completely do not like), they feed us one (1) egg, a little avocado… (if they were in a good mood) and then, they send us off on a FIVE HOUR hike in the Malibu mountains.

After the five-hour hike, we come back, do another yoga class (which I still, completely do not like), play water volleyball, have a very, very, light lunch. We do a meditation class, before having a light dinner and going to bed by 9 pm - which is also very different from my partying in St. Tropez, to my European trip, where at 9 pm I was just getting ready to go out to dinner.

It was HARD! But by the end of the week, it was an amazing experience. I had a lot of time to think and reset, focus on myself, and set intentions. I highly recommend a retreat like this one if you are trying to think about your future, reset your body, or rest your mind. I met some amazing people, and I cannot wait to do something like this again in the future.

Getting out of my comfort zone actually turned out to be a really great experience. One lesson was learned, and that’s that I should be open to getting out of my comfort zone more often, and I am far more capable than I let myself believe.

On my next trip, I went to San Miguel with my oldest daughter, Sofia, to scope out venues for her upcoming wedding! One of my favorite trips of the year of course, and it was so special to spend this time with my daughter, I can't wait to tell you all about it next week.

Favorites

Now let’s talk about one of my favorite things to talk about, my favorite things! Of course, one KAMO by Kary collection that I will NOT travel without are my Sofia earrings. My 3” & 4” earrings in Pearl, Blue Lapis, Black Onyx, etc. are all made of 14K gold, because my ears are very sensitive and allergic to anything that is not gold. They are so light and they go with everything. I get so many compliments when I wear these earrings out and I am literally obsessed with them. You can shop the Sofia Earring collection below.

Another favorite thing of mine, I LIVE in workout clothes… a lot. Being a mom, running around, working, one brand I love is ALO. They have a ton of cute, comfortable styles that are a little bit dressier than most workout clothes. They are a touch more expensive than normal workout clothes, but I think it’s worth it because I wind up wearing them all day anyway. I can go from my Pilates class, to lunch, to carpool, and I end up wearing them all day... so it’s worth it! I highly recommend checking them out, and pairing them with some KAMO Sofia Earrings! I do it all the time!

I’ll let you in on a little secret, I have a whole new collection launching next week! Keep an eye out on your inbox on Tuesday for the next KAMO drop!

Much Love,

Kary
